The Center for Science and Technology Policy Research (CSTPR) at the University of Colorado Boulder (CU Boulder) partnered with the American Association for the Advancement of Science to develop and grow an informed, involved, and impactful Colorado Local Science Engagement Network (LSEN).

The objectives of the CO LSEN program is twofold: first, to bring relevant and timely science to bear on policy decisions at the local and state level so that policies are better suited to address challenges related to climate change, sustainability, technology adoption, and natural resource management in Colorado; and second, to build  and foster the LSEN as a new contingent of scientists in the state who are regularly engaged in identifying opportunities and relationships for bringing science into the policy realm.

Projects

Science Notes

Short, informative, articles providing information at the intersection of Science and Policy in Colorado.

Future of Hydraulic Fracturing Event

In February 2021, I helped coordinate and facilitate a two part discussion on the future of hydraulic fracturing in the United States and Colorado. The virtual session featured scientific experts and decision-makers, each of whom shared a unique perspective on the economic, environmental, human health, and community considerations of hydraulic fracturing and what we might be able to expect at both the state and national level in the future.

Legislative Event

In June 2021, I coordinated and facilitated a two part legislative event for Colorado Local Science Engagement Network (CO LSEN) and the Institute for Science and Policy (ISP),  in collaboration with CO-LABS, Western Water Assessment (WWA), the Colorado Climate Center, and Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) in which we welcomed scientists and decision-makers throughout our state for three conversations focused on rural broadband in Colorado, climate-informed decision-making, and carbon markets as a policy tool.

Better Know a District Multi-Media Campaign

The “Better Know a Colorado…District/Issue/Border” multimedia project seeks to draw out science-policy-society issues around the state of Colorado and tell the vibrant and varied stories of communities and people living within it. As a non-partisan project, Better Know a Colorado…District/Issue/Border investigates, relays facts and figures, and shares information and narratives without championing or criticizing any particular worldview.

I coordinated and interviewed Colorado’s congressional Representatives, created introduction videos for each congressional district, managed story boards, created the project branding and design language, and promoted the project/ managed social media.
